Catalyst 2009 “Make Your Mark”

I’m sure by now most people are tired of seeing twitters about “#cat09“.  But I’m willing to bet it’s the people that didn’t go to the conference…  For those of you that missed it you need to get the DVD’s of the event, and make sure you don’t miss next year!

This was the first time I was able to site through all of the event – and I was able to witness some amazing moments.  I wrote a quick list of take aways:

- Getting some talk with with Jamie Tworkowski – creator of “To write love on her arms” Here’s a man with a genuine heart for people.  His concern, care and love for people is so real and evident, it amazed me just talking with him.

- Hearing from Jessica Jackley about KIVA.  She is Co-founder of  the worlds first person-to-person micro-lending website, empowering individuals to lend directly to unique entrepreneurs around the globe. Their misson is to is to connect people through lending for the sake of alleviating poverty.

– Watching a man jump from 39 feet into a 1 foot deep pool of water

- Hearing Chuck Swindoll talk about the ten most important things he’s learned over 50 years of leadership.

- Seeing Compassion happen in real life.  We all watched a Compassion International sponsor child (from uganda) whose now an adult, be introduced to his sponsor for the first time in his life… an amazing moment of emotion and love.

- And the most amazing acapella group ruined by the voice of none other than the Catalyst Director Brad Lomenick! (see for yourself)

Bad Job

I don’t think I have the best job in the world, but thankful my day doesn’t consist of this…

Key West 5K

Little ditty of me and the family running a 5k down in Key west.  Big thanks to my uncle, Bill Johnson – father of the infamous Chad “Squeaky J” Johnson…

Ken Block… Unreal.

If you want to skip to the good stuff just fast forward to 3 min…

Does Creativity work?

Mom always said be creative… Looks like this time it paid off.  As a freelance designer I sometimes get caught up in designing, and forget the whole creative process.  I have learned that if you take time for the creative process, you end up spending less time designing, and create a better product.

Think about it peeps – creativity works.  Big ups to Jsmooth for sending me this video.

Logo, Logo, Logo…

I’m getting a good amount of logo work right now which is pretty fun.  I’ve been working on my personal logo – not Ksmoot but “MK” for Mack Kitchel…

I’ve been thinking about rebranding myself as “Mack Kitchel Design” what are you’re initial thoughts about this logo?  Don’t worry about the colors – they will change when I decide on a style.

I’ve decided to use a kangaroo for my Icon… because who doesn’t love a Kangaroo…

Check out the true North logo I created for a church out of VA.

I’m that guy

Last night I had to clean up my townhouse and do some minor repairs.  Painting, cleaning, fixing misc junk.

The easiest one in my mind was to clean out the master shower and re-caulk all the seals…  Well, I ended up being that guy on the beginning of this video.  I was sitting in water, sweating in a hot shower stall, and had caulk all over me…

4 things I am excited about right now

1. TweetDeck – If you’re not on twitter you might want to skip to #2… TweetDeck is Awesome.  It’s a free application that you can download here, and it organizes all you’re direct messages, mentions, friends, etc. in a way that is very easy to use and kool.

2. Dj Earworm – If you like music artists when they collaborate on a project, you will love this.  Dj Earworm combines music from several different artists in a unique and fresh way. Check it out here, you can download mp3’s also.

3. 24 on Hulu – I got hooked on 24 this last season, and everyone is telling me I have to watch the previous series… So naturally I was excited when I saw that Hulu was going to run all the episodes starting last Tuesday till the fall.  Click here to check them out.  Oh, and they are running extra office episodes too!

4. Ksmoot.com – I’ve been working on several websites but I’m kind of excited about the 12Stone site that is supposed to launch this month.  You can get a sneak peek here. Just look at the “Currently Building” line.
